Terms and Conditions for Økisnavn.fo
Terms of Use for the assignment, administration, and cancellation of domain names under the .fo national top-level domain on the internet.
These terms of use apply to the registration and acquisition of domain name services from okisnavn.fo, Tórshavn, VAT no. 540528, with the registered address at:
Tinghúsvegur 59, FO-110 Tórshavn, Faroe Islands.
1. Right to use .fo domain name
To obtain the right to use a domain name, a registrant must create a digital account on okisnavn.fo. The registrant must provide information including name, email address, phone number, and payment card details to pay for the usage rights.
Once the payment for the domain name usage rights is made, the purchase is final. FO Council has no obligation to verify whether the domain name infringes on the rights of third parties regarding trademarks or brand names.
The right to use a .fo domain name remains valid as long as the usage fee is paid. See section 8, Fees.
2. General rules for domain names
Domain names may consist of letters from the Faroese and English alphabets, numbers, and hyphens (-). However, hyphens cannot be placed at the beginning or end of the domain name.
3. Accurate registrant information
Registrants are required to ensure their information is accurate at all times so that it is always possible to identify the person or entity behind a domain name.
Økisnavn reserves the right to verify registrant information and request corrections to any inaccuracies. If the registrant fails to correct inaccurate information within 25 days of notification, Økisnavn may terminate the agreement, including all domain names registered by the registrant.
Notifications from Økisnavn will be sent digitally to the registrant’s registered email address. Økisnavn is not liable if the registrant fails to receive notifications for any reason.

Information about domain name registrants is available in the Whois database.
4. Liability
Obtaining usage rights to a domain name under these terms does not automatically grant the registrant the right to use the name in other contexts. Complaints from third parties regarding the use of a domain name must be directed to the registrant, as stated in section 3.
FO Council is not responsible for how a domain name is used by the registrant or for the content of any associated website.
The registrant is responsible for ensuring that the domain name registration does not violate Faroese law or infringe the rights of third parties.
5. Illegal use of domain names
Økisnavn reserves the right to deactivate a domain name without prior notice if the registrant violates good domain name practices by using the domain for financial crimes, cyberattacks (e.g., phishing or malware distribution), serious offensive content, or any illegal activities.
Økisnavn will notify the registrant of any cancellation. The canceled domain will be placed in quarantine for four weeks before being deleted.
Økisnavn reserves the right to deny a registrant the ability to register domain names if they have had at least two domain names canceled.
6. Termination of a domain name
Registrants can terminate a domain name by logging into their account on okisnavn.fo. No refunds will be provided for the remaining validity period.
Once termination is registered in the system, the domain name will be removed from the registry and made available for others to register.
7. Warnings and deletions
A warning will be sent to the registrant via email if payment for a domain name is not made on time.
The registrant has 40 days to resolve the payment issue before the domain name is technically deactivated. If the registrant does not act within 20 days after deactivation, the domain name will be permanently deleted, and the registrant will lose the rights to it.
FO Council may also delete a domain name in cases of rule violations or legal rulings, and such actions may occur without prior notice.
8. Fees
Domain names are paid for at the time of registration, with a minimum fee covering one year.
As of April 3, 2025, the cost is DKK 320 (excl. VAT) or DKK 400 (incl. VAT) per year. Registrants can set up automatic payment agreements in the system.
The FO Council reserves the right to change annual fees, which will be announced on okisnavn.fo.
The registration period can range from one to ten years. Domain names can be renewed for one or more years by paying the renewal fee on time.
9. General Information
Payment
If a registrant subscribes to a plan, the fees will be charged annually to the registered payment card on the same date the plan was activated. Økisnavn saves your credit card information to ease future transactions.
Activate subscription
Registrants can activate automatic renewal by logging into okisnavn.fo.
Cancel subscription
Registrants can cancel domain registrations by logging into okisnavn.fo.
Receipts for payments
Receipts for domain name payments will be sent to the registrant via email.
Acceptance of terms
By creating a digital account on okisnavn.fo, registrants confirm that they have read and accepted these terms of use.
