Collection and Purpose
The collection and processing of personal data are necessary to provide services to the customers of økisnavn.fo, such as maintaining records; maintaining contact; providing services, support, and sending invoices, etc.
Furthermore, økisnavn.fo is legally responsible for collecting information necessary for the whois database. We do not collect any information except what is necessary to fulfill our obligations as the manager of .fo domain names.
Økisnavn.fo only collects personal information about registrants, possible representatives, payers, and administrators. The personal information we collect is primarily contact information and other information related to domain registration, namely:
- Name
- Address
- Telephone number
- Username
- IP address
- Domain name
When you apply for a domain name with an administrator, you simultaneously enter into an agreement with økisnavn.fo. In this context, information is sent from the administrator to økisnavn.fo so that økisnavn.fo can carry out the registration in the whois database and contact you.
Økisnavn.fo may also, on its own, collect and process updated personal information in connection with regularly verifying contact information. This is done to ensure that the personal information we process about you is accurate.
It is required that personal information is always accurate. Therefore, it is important that you regularly update your personal information in our system. If økisnavn.fo notices any errors in the registration, økisnavn.fo will request the registrant, institution, or company to update and potentially correct the information.
Monitoring of Contact Information and Identity of Registrants
We aim to process personal information prudently and transparently.
At the same time as your information is collected, you will be informed about what data is collected and what it will be used for.
Information Security
At økisnavn.fo, security is of the utmost priority. We place great emphasis on protecting our data, systems, and services.
We protect our information and systems against disclosure and other unauthorized use. We ensure that your personal information is not accidentally destroyed, lost, altered, disclosed without authorization, or accessed by unauthorized individuals.
Information about names and email addresses is first provided to økisnavn.fo and then sent to CentralNic/Instra in England, Australia, and New Zealand. All data with økisnavn.fo is also stored on servers with Elektron in the Faroe Islands.
Purpose Change
Should we need to use your information in a way that does not align with what our security policy stated when the data was collected, we are required to ask for your consent. You can choose to refuse to provide us with private information, but this also means that we cannot provide you with services where we need your information to fulfill our obligations to you.
Use of Information
We reserve the right to share personal information with other institutions that provide services on our behalf. All third parties are required to respect and secure
your personal information according to this security policy. We do not allow third parties to use your personal information for their own use but only for specific purposes outlined in this privacy policy and according to our guidelines.
As registrants, we are required to use your full name, address, telephone number, and email for the necessary registrations when you register for the first time, renew, or transfer a domain name. This is required for the registration to be completed and to ensure that all records are accurate and up-to-date.
We always recommend that our customers read the security policies of the registrar and domain name administrator under which you register your domain names. We have no influence on the security policies of others.
In addition to the above, we may use or disclose information about you if:
I. You have given consent for the information to be shared with others.
II. We have reason to believe that the information may help prevent a serious, specific, and immediate threat to the life and safety of an individual or the public.
III. We have reason to believe that illegal activity has occurred, is in progress, or is being planned and that it is important for the relevant authorities to obtain the information.
IV. Your personal information may be disclosed to ‘whois’ services if necessary to perform legal services for the relevant third party.
V. To ensure a certain continuity, it may be necessary to provide your information to escrow service providers (temporary accounts set up for urgent purposes) as well as to service providers who take backups of data.
VI. We may disclose your personal information to legal authorities or other public authorities if we are legally required to provide the information. We may also use third-party data verification tools to verify information. Similarly, we have the right to disclose information to auditors in connection with reviews of our systems.
For customer service purposes, we may provide third parties with your personal information.
Data Processing Agreement
If we enter into agreements with other providers who are to handle personal data on our behalf, we always enter into a data processing agreement, which ensures us that the data processing also ensures information security at a high level.
Økisnavn.fo does not provide third parties with personal data for marketing purposes or any other purpose.
Deleting Personal Data
When your personal information is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, processed, and stored, it will be deleted.
Even if, for example, you terminate the use of a domain name, you should remember that we still retain various information. This includes information that may be necessary to establish important issues during the contract period that are important to you or økisnavn.fo.
For example, this may include information necessary to establish potential legal claims arising from contract matters between a registrant and økisnavn.fo. We regularly review our need to retain information to ensure that we do not keep more information than necessary.
Whois Information
The public WHOIS service is a standard part of domain name systems worldwide. The purpose of the WHOIS service is to allow users to query a domain name to find out who owns it. The WHOIS service is handled by a web-based tool and port 43.
The WHOIS service of økisnavn.fo does not display any personal information but shows information about DNS, registration and expiration date, and the last update of the information (known as WHOIS data). It is possible to contact the registrant via the WHOIS service using a web form, which according to the security policy, does not disclose your personal information.
Data about each individual domain name registration is collected by økisnavn.fo in accordance with økisnavn.fo regulations.
Updating Personal Information
We strive to keep information up-to-date and appropriate for our customers and website users. To live up to this, it is important that the information we have is always updated. If you want access to or wish to update your information, we encourage you to log in to your user account on http://www.økisnavn.fo/ or send us an email at okisnavn@okisnavn.fo. We may also contact you to ask if the information is still correct.
Incorrect information will be corrected as soon as we receive notification from you.
Rights and Access to Information
All the information we have collected can be viewed in your user account, and you always have access to this information if you log in through the økisnavn.fo website.
According to the law on personal data, you have, among other things, the following rights:
- Access to your personal information (also called “data subject access request”). This allows you to obtain a copy of the personal information we have about you and information about how we process this information.
- Correction of the information we have about you. This allows you to correct any incorrect or misleading information we may have about you, although we always strive to have updated information for your and our own security.
- Deletion of personal information. This option allows you to request that personal information we no longer need be deleted. Note that we may, due to legal obligations, not always be able to fulfill your request. In such a case, you will be informed when the deletion request is made.
- Object to the processing of personal information if you believe that a processing infringes on your fundamental rights and freedoms. You also have the right to object if we use your personal information in direct marketing campaigns. In certain cases, where we have a legitimate legal reason, we may refuse your request.
- Request limited processing of personal information. This allows you to ask us to stop processing personal information if you are in the process of canceling your services and closing your user account, or if you need us to retain the data in connection with legal defense, or other cases where we would normally delete or anonymize your data.
- Request to transfer your personal information to a third party. We allow you to copy information we have about you. If you wish to transfer the domain name to another domain name administrator, you can write to us at okisnavn@okisnavn.fo.
- Consent can always be withdrawn. This cannot, however, retroactively affect any processing that has already been legally carried out before the withdrawal. If you withdraw consent, it may affect our ability to provide you with certain services. When you submit a notification of withdrawal of consent, you will be informed of the potential products and services that will be affected.
- In addition to using cookies, logs, and net logs as described above, we do not use any automated functions in connection with our services that use your personal information. We will also not contact you solely because you have visited our website once. Regarding an IP address, økisnavn.fo, for security reasons, only sees which country the address is from.
If you wish to exercise your rights as outlined above, we encourage you to contact us at okisnavn@okisnavn.fo.
More Information
We will contact you if necessary to ensure that we have reached the correct person and to ensure your rights to your personal information or to ensure your other rights. This is done to ensure that no unauthorized person gains access to your information. We may also contact you if necessary to expedite processing.
Response Time
We strive to answer all inquiries within one month. Sometimes it may take us longer, such as if the inquiry is particularly difficult to answer, or if several inquiries are received at the same time. In any case, we are required to inform you of changes in response time.
Opt-Out
If you have actively chosen, we can send you information about our services. To opt- out of this information or other marketing, you can either click the ‘unsubscribe’ button at the bottom of the email or go to økisnavn.fo/account/update to unsubscribe from future information.
